We opened our first location in Metro Phoenix in Chandler, Arizona in 2016, the same year we started driving in the region. Since then, we’ve grown our team to hundreds of local residents.

Today, we’re excited to announce that Waymo will open a technical service center in Mesa, a nearby city in Phoenix’s East Valley.

At 85,000 square feet, this new space will more than double our capacity to service, maintain and grow our fleet of Waymo One cars and, over time, help us expand our team to employ up to hundreds more local Phoenicians. It’s just the latest step in our investment and commitment to this region.

We’re excited to expand our partnership with the City of Mesa and thank Mayor John Giles who shared, “Mesa is thrilled to welcome Waymo to our city where they will be growing and expanding their self-driving service and creating local jobs here in the city.”

Our decision to keep expanding here is an easy one. Metro Phoenix offers everything we need to continue building safe and reliable self-driving technology: a large area with broad, yet complex, city streets; a wide-spread suburban population that relies heavily on vehicle transport; and of course, lots of gorgeous sunny days for driving while we also invest in further weather testing. Most importantly, Metro Phoenix is an innovation-minded region that shares our vision of improving mobility for all.

This won’t be the first time we’ve grown our operations. We expanded our full-service center in Chandler last year to 60,000 square feet to support our increasing operations in the region. It houses our operations and support teams, including fleet technicians, fleet dispatch, fleet response, and rider support.

Now we’re excited to grow our team even more when we open up our new technical service center in Mesa as we expect to create up to hundreds of new jobs at this new facility over time.

We’ve been driving in Arizona for more than two years, and we’re grateful to the citizens of the state for welcoming our transformative self-driving technology and embracing the promise of safer streets. Thank you Metro Phoenix and Mesa for your support!
