Meet Waymo at CES 2022

UPDATE, December 23, 2021: Based on quickly rising COVID-19 infection rates, Waymo has made the difficult decision not to participate in person at CES 2022. We are aiming to still virtually participate in some CES-related events. In particular, as part of our Self-Driven Women series, our co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana and our Global Head of Public Policy Michelle Peacock will speak at several virtual panel discussions with the Female Quotient, the official equality partner of CES 2022.

The safety and wellbeing of our team is top of mind for us and informed this tough decision. Going forward, once this most recent surge is under control, our team will continue to build out impactful, engaging, and safe events so that our key audiences and stakeholders can experience Waymo.

2021 was a milestone year for the Waymo Driver. Not only did we begin serving riders in San Francisco and scale our Waymo One service in Arizona to serve tens of thousands of rider-only trips, but we also expanded our Waymo Via trucking and delivery operations and partnered with Daimler Truck to build the world’s first Class 8 trucks to allow operation with no human driver behind the wheel.

We’re incredibly excited to bring all of these accomplishments together at CES next month. We’ll be showing the full range of vehicles on which we operate the Waymo Driver at CES for the first time, and there’ll be opportunities to hear from our leaders and meet the team.

Explore our fleet of Waymo One and Waymo Via vehicles

For the first time, we’ll have our new autonomous L4 Class-8 Freightliner Cascadia truck with redundant features on display at CES. This truck will be integrated with the fifth-generation of the Waymo Driver—our most advanced autonomous driving platform that can perceive and understand its environment in incredible detail—in its new design that we’re revealing at CES.

One of our Waymo Via minivans, which helped us deliver packages locally for partners including UPS, will be on display at our CES booth, too.

Attendees will also be able to check out our fully electric Jaguar I-PACEs that are now serving rides to members of the public in San Francisco—and learn how they’re equipped to handle all the complexities of driving in dense urban areas.

All of these vehicles will be at our Waymo exhibit located in the West Hall at booth 5604. There, we’ll explain more about how we build the Waymo Driver and integrate it into different vehicle types, and share some of the lessons we’ve learned serving riders and fleet customers across different cities and routes. Engage with Waymo executives

Several of our executives will be on hand at CES ‘22 to share our story, and we invite you to join us.

Our co-CEO, Tekedra Mawakana, will be speaking to Automotive News reporter Pete Bigelow in a CES Great Minds session in the West Hall (W228-233) at 1:30 pm Pacific on January 5th. They’ll talk about the future of autonomous driving and how it can revolutionize mobility and road safety for both people and goods.

Michelle Peacock, Global Head of Public Policy for Waymo, will participate in the panel discussion The Future is Already Happening: Self-Driving Vehicles that will explore autonomous driving innovation and progress made by the AV industry at 1 pm PT on January 5th.

We’re also excited to introduce CES visitors to more of the community building the future of mobility. As part of our Self-Driven Women series bringing together incredible women working in autonomous driving, we’ll host and participate in several discussions with the Female Quotient, the official equality partner of CES. The sessions will take place at the Female Quotient’s Equality Lounge at Encore Tower Suites.

• At 5 pm on January 5th, our co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana, CEO of AARP Jo Ann Jenkins, National President of Mothers Against Drunk Driving Alex Otte, will talk about the future of mobility, how autonomous driving technology can help make it more inclusive for everyone, and why we need more talent diversity to make that happen.

• At 11:00 am on January 6th, our Global Head of Public Policy Michelle Peacock will be speaking at the panel discussion Getting More Women Into Tech and Helping Them Thrive There.

Wednesday, January 5th:

• 11:00 am PT, Pit stop before the podium. The Autonomous Challenge at CES is a one-of-a-kind competition that blends cutting-edge robotics with a favorite American pastime: racing. One of the leading teams, MIT-PITT-RW, will take a quick pit stop at Waymo’s booth before they make history at the first-ever head-to-head, high-speed autonomous racecar passing competition.

• 12:30 pm PT, Designing the Waymo Driver. YooJung Ahn, Head of Design at Waymo and Toshi Fujimura, Lead Industrial Designer at Waymo will talk about how Waymo approaches industrial design for autonomous driving technology across multiple vehicle platforms and show Waymo’s design evolution. This session will also offer an exclusive look into the design behind Waymo’s latest truck platform on display at CES.

• 2:30 pm PT, The Waymo One experience. Hear from Waymo Senior Product Manager Sam Kansara about what it’s like to get where you need to go with Waymo One, the world’s first fully autonomous ride-hailing service, available in Metro Phoenix today. Get a glimpse of how easy it is to take a ride with our app, explore what the in-car experience feels like with no human driver, and see how riders have incorporated the service into their everyday lives. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about our Waymo One Trusted Tester Program, which we launched for San Francisco residents in 2021.

Thursday, January 6th:

• 10:00 am PT, Building a redundant scalable truck platform for autonomous driving. Andre Strobel, Systems Engineering Lead for Waymo Via, and Suman Narayanan, Director of Engineering at Daimler Truck North America, will share the latest about our work with Daimler Truck to develop the first-ever redundant truck platform built for L4 readiness and powered by the Waymo Driver, which will be available to fleet customers in the coming years.

• 1:00 pm PT, Waymo One fully autonomous ride livestream. Step into the virtual driver’s seat of one of Waymo’s autonomously driven vehicles and see the many places it can go. In Arizona, fully autonomous vehicles are currently on the road with the world’s first public autonomous ride-hailing service—Waymo One. Stop by to see this livestream and follow along as one of our vehicles takes a trip through Phoenix. And, chat with some of Waymo’s product and user experience team members to learn how the Waymo Driver helps get people safely from point A to B every day.

Friday, January 7th:

• 10am PT, Bringing autonomous, safe and convenient grocery delivery with Albertsons Companies. Hear from Waymo Strategic Partner Manager, Melanie D’achon and Albertsons' Vice President Business Development, ecommerce and Digital Innovation, Amber Kappa about Waymo’s first autonomous grocery delivery in San Francisco, delivering goods from one of Albertson’s Safeway stores to residents in the city. Learn about the unique opportunity and challenge behind autonomous grocery delivery in dense urban environments.
